About

I am a Sheffield based artist, who paints dying flowers and landscapes among other things, with a love for colour and dripping.

I have always been a creative person, and as far as I can remember I have painted, drawn and crafted, purely for my own enjoyment. I am largely self taught, as much of the art work I produced or was interested in, was very different from the limited work shown to us at school which we were basically told to just copy.

When I began to take drawing seriously, I was obsessed with photo-realism, and would spend hours trying to draw photos from magazines as realistically as possible. After a year or so, I discovered Lora Zombie, and everything changed. Although I still focused on drawing and painting realistically, I was amazed by her use of colour and her ability to make something look so realistic and yet cartoon at the same time. My work is obviously heavily influenced by her aesthetically, as I find dripping backgrounds a fun way to introduce colour, which I think compliments the image I am painting.

I am a lover of puns and plays on words, sarcasm and tastefully crass humour. I also love a good contradiction. I sometimes try to incorporate this into my work, especially the work I produced while studying Foundation Art and Design (specialising in illustration) at College, which included a few 'Honest Greetings' Cards, and a project set by the Hello Beautiful Foundation, a breast cancer foundation. From this project, I was chosen to have my piece made into greetings cards to be sold by the foundation, with proceeds going to the charity.

For the last three years I have been at University, study something slightly unrelated, during which I slowed down creating art, however since finishing Uni, I have begun increasing my portfolio, playing with card designs, landscapes and various other subjects. This blog will document this experimentation and creations.
